The Hand that Cradles the Rock

1982

A farce by Edmonton playwright Warren Graves.  Kaleidoscope Theatre thought that comedy was what Drumheller wanted and we felt we had the cast who could make them laugh.  With the help of craftsman Chuck Verschagin we  built our first set on the stage in the gym at Drumheller Composite High.  I remember that we rehearsed longer than was necessary. In the fall of 1981 Monte Solberg, Barb Van Der Ryse, Chris Pentelchuk, Mel Cragg, and Greg Clark got together at Kay Bigelow's apartment with the desire to form a new Amateur Theatre Company For Drumheller. After much deliberation Monte Solberg suggested the name of KALEIDOSCOPE for the name of our new theatre group. The word Kaleidoscope meant "ever changing" and that seemed like an appropriate name at the time and even more so today when we look back at the variety of theatre we have attacked in twenty years.
